Richard Lorber is the CEO and President of Kino Lorber Inc., a company that for 40 years has been a leader in the release of acclaimed world cinema, award winning independent films, documentary features and classics. With a NYC based staff of 30 and a distinguished curated library of over 2,800 titles, Lorber oversees the acquisition and release of over 35 new films per year theatrically and over 350 titles to all digital, physical media and educational outlets. The company has had 7 Oscar nominated films in the last 9 years including Italy’s Fire At Sea in 2017 and the 2019 best documentary nominee Of Fathers and Sons. Other recent award winning international films released by the company include last year’s Cannes Special Palme D’or winner “The Image Book” from Jean Luc Godard as well as last year’s Golden Bear winner (Berlin Festival) “Touch Me Not.” The Company recently premiered 4 films at TIFF including this year Cannes Jury Prize winner Bacurau from Brazil, from Israel and France, this year’s Golden Bear winner Synonyms and from Italy the acclaimed Martin Eden. An industry pioneer, Richard Lorber was the head of Fox Lorber, as well as its successor Koch Lorber Films (now Entertainment One). He acquired Kino International in 2009 to form Kino Lorber. Before his business career, he earned bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees from Columbia University, taught art history at New York University, and wrote art criticism (Artforum). The French government honored him as a “Chevalier de L’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.” He is a member in the Executives Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
