Michael Gubbins is an analyst, project leader, consultant and journalist, with particular expertise in digital media development. He is currently leading a major cross-media Creative Cluster iniative, based around the UK’s second city of Birmingham. It aims to establish new methodologies for audience-driven story development in one of the most diverse areas of Europe, and to build agile mechanisms for fast development of intellectual property and business.

Gubbins also chairs the innovative Ffilm Cymru Wales film agency, which has been developing a dynamic and diverse film industry in the UK nation with an emphasis on new approaches to project and business development and reaching new audiences in areas of deprivation and cultural exclusion.

He is the founder of the SampoMedia consultancy and is the former editor of titles, including Screen International and Screen Daily, and Music Week. 

He writes influential reports on the changing media environment. And is an experienced moderator, keynote speaker and organizer of conferences, think tanks and events around the world. 

His clients have included CineRegio, Film4, BFI, Canadian Media Fund, Swedish Film Institute, European Audiovisual Observatory, Europa Cinemas, Europa Distribution, Telefilm Canada, BFI, Power to the Pixel, Curzon Film World, Film London, MEDIA programme, the Marche du Film at Cannes, Cinemart (Rotterdam) and the Welsh National Opera. 

He is a frequent lecturer on film at institutions and a visiting fellow of Exeter University.

He is on the board of Power to the Pixel and Met Film School.
