Founder of Lucky Red, an independent film production and distribution company, Andrea Occhipinti was once a film actor. Founded in 1987 together with Kermit Smith, Occhipint’s company has distributed in Italy (and in many cases discovered) internationally renowned authors including Ang Lee, Lars von Trier, François Ozon, Alejandro Amenábar, Robert Altman, Atom Egoyan, Wong Kar Wai, Thomas Vinterberg, Jacques Perrin, Takeshi Kitano, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, Agnès Jaoui, Peter Mullan, Luc Jacquet, Patrice Leconte, Park Chan-wook, Michel Ocelot, Gus Van Sant, Danny Boyle, Michael Haneke, Hayao Miyazaki, Abdellatif Kechiche, Paolo Sorrentino, Stephen Frears.
For his activity as a distributor, the Academy of Italian Cinema gave him a special David in 2014. In April 2014 Andrea Occhipinti received the French Cinema Award from UniFrance for his contribution to the promotion of French cinema in Italy. On December 12, 2015, he received the European Film Award – Prix Eurimages from the European Film Academy for his work as a producer (he is the first Italian producer to receive this award from the institution). In addition to being the Sole Administrator of Lucky Red, Andrea Occhipinti was for five years the president of ANICA (Associazione Nazionale Industrie Cinematografiche Audiovisive e Multimediali – National Association of Film and Audiovisual Industry) distributors, he is the Managing Director of the cinema circuit Circuito Cinema. In 2019, together with Cinema Undici, he won the David di Donatello as Best Producer for the film On My Skin.
