Director
Susanna Nicchiarelli was born in Rome on May 6, 1975. She has a degree in Philosophy with a Major at the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, graduated as Director at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in 2004. She started her career working with Nani Moretti, writing and directing short films and documentaries, among which are two stop-motion animations: Sputnik 5, winner of a Nastro d’Argento in 2010, and Esca Viva (Live Bait). She has written and directed three films: Cosmonaut (2009) winner of the Controcampo Award at Venice International Film Festival and nominated among the best debuts at David di Donatello and Nastro d’Argento 2010. Discovery At Dawn (2013), presented at Roma Film Festival, with Margherita Buy, and Nico, 1988 with Trine Dyrholm, presented at the Venice Film Festival in September 2017, awarded with the Leone as Best Film in the Orizonti section, and later, in December 2017, achieved the Jury Great Prix at Les Arcs Film Festival. In addition to being sold all over the world, receiving many awards at festivals and the international press, the film has received eight nomination at the David di Donatello in 2018, including Best Film and winning in four categories: Best Sound, Best Makeup, Best Hair, and Best Original Screenplay.
